Imagined Communities

Imagined Communities by Benedict Anderson was a mediocre book. The writing was very dry, but the historical content is interesting. It is about the history of nationalism, and the effects that it had on the world today.
I think that this book is extremely relevant to AP World, because it takes the idea of a nation and shows how it came to be, and how differently it evolved throughout the world. Its themes correlate to the AP World class, but I would only suggest this book to a very dedicated and perseverant reader, because the material is tough to handle, and often repetitive.

Shadow of the Silk Road

The exciting book, Shadow of the Silk Road, by Colin Thubron, was a journalist’s personal experience along the ancient Silk Road. As Colin Thubron travels, the reader follows him, and has the unique opportunity to meet the real characters that helped him along his journey as he goes through Asia. He uncovers past archives, places and objects and in an interactive way, he explains the purpose and ideas behind them. Although lengthy, his book was extremely interesting, because the reader can feel like they are actually walking along this famous route. To understand the effect the Silk Road had on every continent, this book puts everything in perspective.
