The need for structure and something to follow. During the time of peace, people got bored in a sense, and decided it was important to grow spiritually through themselves and their religion. There was nothing to follow, because the governments were laying low, so people of that time united under certain belief systems, and it was their form of 'something to do.' Religion set a basis / foundation for these people and gave them something to follow.

I agree with Benjamin Franklin. In this period of history people were bored because conflicts were minimal. People need to have a belief system to prosper in life. Religion was the belief system that these people followed. The Silk Road and other trade centers allowed this religion to spread during this time of peace.

I agree with what Benjamin and Mr. Booth have said; in a time when there was not much else that was really structured due to the fall of Rome and the Han empire, religion was something that brought people together. It gave the common folk as well as those in positions of power something to believe in and come together over.

I agree, everyone needed some kind of structure in society to stop it from falling into chaos. Everyone needs something to feel a part of, and since empires were not thriving at this time, they resorted to religion. Unity is something we strive for and, during this time period, people were unified through religion.

I agree with this also, when they were in a time of nothing going on they turned to practicing their religions. Through this each different religion flourished and many other cultures and religions learned about them during this time.

I also agree. During this time, there was nothing going on and people were trying to avoid chaotic events from happening. I also agree with Belly Crocker when she said "Everyone needs something to feel a part of..." They all resorted to religion because they needed some sort of stability in their lives. If they had something to rely on, things would be less chaotic and people would find peace in their lives.

Belly Crocker? :D
ReplyDeleteI do wonder, though, if religion was no more prominent in this time than in others, and the lack of political organization gives historians nothing to talk about.
