Imperial Reckoning

This book was a very interesting read. With age that ended almost all empires and colonies Britain let go of all of its colonies except for one. . . Kenya. "Imperial Reckoning " is about the Kenyans fight and struggle against the oppressive and dwindling empire. It was a good read and i learned a lot about the origins of the "dread locks" which symbolized much more then a cool tropical look. I liked this book very much and would advice to anyone whose interested in this kind of history.

  1. One of the wildest parts of this book is the way Caroline Elkins describes the connection that the British had with Kenya. The expats used the phrase "What happens in Kenya, stays in Kenya." It turns out it was sort of a morals-free zone.

    Weird.

Contrast that with the lengths to which the British go to keep Kenya. It's gruesome, and a really fascinating insight into human nature.
