America's Hidden History: Untold Tales of the First Pilgrims, Fighting Women & Forgotten Founders Who Shaped a Nation

This intriguing book covers information from Queen Isabella and Christopher Columbus, to the aftermath of the Revolutionary War and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Consisting of six short stories, that describe various people throughout America's history who struggled during the growth and expansion of the United States of America.

Isabella's Pigs, Hannah's Escape, Washington's Confession, Warren's Toga, Arnold's Boot, and Lafayette's Sword are the titles of the six stories. My favorite, Washington's Confession, is an account of George Washington, as a young officer during Queen Anne's War. The Native American's who were under his command, killed all of the French captives, including a messenger, without his consent. When asked about the skirmish, he lied and said that the peaceful messenger had been killed accidently. However, a single Frenchman escaped and reported the atrosity to the French leaders. When Washington later signed a treaty to hand over a fort to the French, he also unknowingly signed a confession admitting to the "assassination" of the messenger, who was the brother of a high ranking French official. This story of treachery and the shocking revelation about our first President, as well as the other outstanding stories, makes the whole book interesting and intriguing. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about many of the hidden chronicles in our nations past.

  1. This looks like a really interesting book. I always think that it is facinating to hear about America's dirty little secrets, the stuff that the textbook authors don't really want you to see.

  4. One of the most fascinating parts of the American Revolution, to me, is the way in which it was triggered by the actions of a private company. Washington and other land speculators wanted to expand their private holdings, and when they encountered the French, they enlisted the British government to back up their claims. That campaign was the French and Indian war, and that led pretty much right into the American Revolution.

    Really good stuff.
